Edsel is a Lawyer and managing member of Edsel M. Brown Jr, Group, LLC, a management consulting firm focusing on Small Business, Corporate Diversity Outreach, and Government Contracting. The firm's principal office is in Washington, D. C., with another location in Maryland. Edsel M. Brown Jr, the Managing Member of the firm has 29 years experience as a Business Analyst and Manager at the U. S. Small Business Administration headquarters in Washington, D. C. He is an Accredited Small Business Consultant (ASBC), certified by the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants. In addition to his experience at SBA, Edsel has maintained a Law Practice (Law Office of Edsel M. Brown Jr) focusing on Entertainment and Business Law. He is a member of the DC and PA Bars.

An active member of the community Edsel has served as a member of the Calvert County (MD) Economic Development Commission Chairman-Economic Development for the Maryland State NAACP, Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, Calvert County (MD) Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Directors of the Calvert County Minority Business Alliance (MD), Anne Arundel Black Chamber of Commerce (MD), Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (MD)., and currently as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce. He is a Life Member of the NAACP and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers.
He had given testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives (Committee on Small Business). He participated in both House and Senate Congressional Roundtables. Other experience includes owning and operating a D.C. based Law Firm ( Law Office of Edsel M. Brown Jr., PLLC ) specializing in legal aspects related to Small Business, Government Affairs, and Entertainment (he is a member of the Bars of D.C. and P.A.) and has served as a Financial Services Professional owning a Liberty Tax Franchise and serving as an Investment and Insurance Consultant with several FINRA Broker Dealers.
During his tenure at SBA, Edsel served in several managerial capacities, including Assistant Director of the Office of Innovation and Technology, where he directed the office in providing oversight to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs, other responsibilities have included serving as the Assistant Administrator of Business Development and assisting in the certification and business development of minority firms in SBA's 8(a) and Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) Programs, as well as serving as a Financial Analyst in monitoring and counseling venture capital firms in Silicon Valley (CA) under the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Program..
